Some Media Tips

Hi Everyone. I’ve just completed my third media segment this month. One was on National Radio and two on National TV. Now the media loves Laughter Yoga but we don’t always make the most of them to get our message out there. This can be for a variety of reasons but the more we get used to dealing with them the more exposure we’ll get. So I just thought I’d use this newsletter to give you some tips and hints in this area

Newspaper

Send articles to your local paper with a Killer Headline. Make it only six to eight words that are newsworthy. Words like Damage, Crisis, Reduction, Cure, Danger, and Solution will be printed well ahead of headlines which start with People, Latest, Gathering, Steps, Local, or Things every time. The rest of the article details how Laughter Yoga has had an impact on, or successfully addressed the headline

Radio

If you’re invited to a radio studio go prepared. Know the interviewers name and as much about their show as you can. If you know where they’re coming from you’ll know where they want to go to with you. Send them the ten most asked questions about Laughter Yoga. Take your questions and a few words about the answers with you. Remember that you are the expert and not them. If they don’t know what to ask they’ll ask you something you don’t know the answer to

TV

With TV these are very rarely on the spot or live so help with the set up of the shoot. Ask what they would like you to wear, have some props on hand, a banner if you have one, several shooting locations, and an appropriate venue with lots of light. The most daunting concept is often that there are cameras, lighting crew, and sound people all around you. Ignore them and talk to the interviewer. Look into their eyes and never break eye contact. You will form a real bond and see their eyes saying to you…”keep it up…you’re doing really well…wow that’s interesting”. This is all once again in response to the questions you’ve sent them to ask you. If anyone has some newspaper clips, radio interviews, or TV footage please send it to me as this will make GRRREAT content for our Laughteryoga-Australia website

Teacher Training and Conference Early Bird Special

Don’t forget that September is the final chance to take advantage of the Early Bird Special pricing for the Teacher Training and Conference in November. Bookings and payments have already started to roll in so make sure you don’t miss out on what will be some GRRREAT events. In addition to these Sebastien will be doing an Advanced Training Day on the Monday. Drop me an email if you’d like to know more about this not to be missed Training Program

Website News

The latest development is the establishment of a Laughter Yoga Blog Site. This will give us the ability to share information quickly from around the world. Visit http://laughteryoga.org/lyblogs/ and keep informed as to what’s going on with Laughter Yoga around the world

This newsletter can also be seen in video format at http://gallery.me.com/mervneal#100317. It includes some of the TV footage that was shot on me recently

Until next month keep laughing

Cheers
